Types of Hyundai Keys We Replace
Hyundai has used several key technologies across its lineup over the years, and the right replacement method depends entirely on which system your vehicle uses. Older Hyundai models — think early Elantras, Accents, and Sonatas from the late 1990s through mid-2000s — used basic metal keys that required only cutting. Later models moved to transponder keys, which contain a small chip inside the key head that must be electronically programmed to your car's immobilizer. Without that programming step, the engine simply won't start even if the key turns perfectly in the ignition.
Newer Hyundai models — including recent Tucson, Santa Fe, Palisade, Ioniq, and Elantra trims — use proximity smart keys or key fobs with push-button start. These require both a precisely cut emergency blade and sophisticated two-way programming between the fob and the vehicle's ECU. We handle all of these on-site: basic cut keys, chipped transponder keys, remote head keys, flip keys, proximity fobs, and full smart key systems. If you're unsure which type your Hyundai takes, just call us — we'll identify it by your VIN and year over the phone.
